I composed these 11 pieces in 2000 and 2012 as “Mix-and-Match Duos” for diverse instruments. I revisited them during the pandemic and made some improvements to the scores, and then realized that these pieces of 2-part counterpoint would work well as inventions for the piano. While the original duos were composed at an intermediate level for solo instruments, as piano pieces they are more difficult and, in some cases, such as #3, very much more difficult! The pianist who can master #3 will have an extremely well-developed ability to manage counterpoint.
